The comforts of Miss Ruben

A terrific little cafe come catering company has recently joined the ranks of the food offerings clustered together in the Ripponlea precinct along Glen Eira Rd. Miss Ruben has taken over the old bank building and turned it into a light, bright space chock full of yummy food.

The space is dominated by a large counter running down the left hand side, replete with sweet treats and large bowls of an interesting assortment of salads. To the right is a large communal table and one smaller table. A bench and stools fill the window. It was relatively empty when I arrived just before 12.30 but in a blink of an eye almost every stool was occupied, testifying to the popularity of this newcomer.

We decided to share a small plate of 3 salads (one was pumpkin based, another roasted cauliflower and the third roasted eggplant) and the slow roasted lamb sourdough sandwich – all of which were delicious, and were more than adequate serves.  You can even  buy whole shoulders of slow roasted lamb to indulge in at home (add a couple of salads and hey presto, there’s dinner).

We resisted the sweet treats, although they did look very tempting, but can attest to the fact that the coffee is good.

Altogether, a tasty addition to the burgeoning food scene in Ripponlea.
